Black Garlic Avocado Toast

Introduction

Black garlic, with its sweet and umami flavor, pairs perfectly with the creamy richness of avocado and the added protein of a sunny side up egg. This recipe incorporates freshly cracked black pepper and black garlic paste, creating a delicious and nutritious toast that’s perfect for breakfast or brunch.

 

Ingredients

 

    • 1 ripe avocado

    • 2 slices of whole grain or sourdough bread

    • 2-3 cloves of black garlic

    • 1 tablespoon olive oil

    • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

    • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

    • Salt, to taste

    • 2 large eggs

    • 1 teaspoon butter or additional olive oil for frying

    • Optional toppings: cherry tomatoes, microgreens, feta cheese, red pepper flakes

 

Instructions

 

    1. Prepare the Bread:

       

        • Toast the slices of bread to your desired level of crispiness.

    1. Prepare the Avocado:

       

        • Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a bowl.

        • Mash the avocado with a fork until smooth.

        • Add the lemon juice and salt, mixing well.

    1. Prepare the Black Garlic Spread:

       

        • Finely chop the black garlic cloves.

        • In a small bowl, mash the chopped black garlic with freshly cracked black pepper to form a paste.

    1. Prepare the Sunny Side Up Eggs:

       

        • Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat and add the butter or olive oil.

        • Crack the eggs into the skillet and cook until the whites are set but the yolks are still runny.

        • Add a small amount of water (about a tablespoon) to the skillet and cover with a lid. Let the eggs steam for 1-2 minutes until the whites are completely cooked but the yolks remain runny.

    1. Assemble the Toast:

       

        • Spread the black garlic and black pepper paste generously over the toasted bread slices.

        • Top with the mashed avocado mixture.

        • Place the sunny side up egg on top of each slice of toast.

    1. Add Optional Toppings:

       

        • Add cherry tomatoes, microgreens, feta cheese, or red pepper flakes for extra flavor and texture.
